Each April, we come together to recognize and celebrate one of the most resilient and inspiring communities among us—military children. Known as the “Month of the Military Child,” this time of year is dedicated to honoring the unique challenges and incredible strength these young heroes display every day as they support their military families. This year, our celebration has been full of meaningful moments, joyful gatherings, and creative expressions of what it means to grow up in a military family.

One of the most magical highlights of the month was the 2nd Annual Military Kids Ball, held on April 5th. Dressed to impress, our young guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening filled with dancing, music, laughter, and a chance to feel truly celebrated alongside their parent and favorite warrior. This formal event was more than just a party—it was a night to honor their experiences, give them a moment in the spotlight, and create joyful memories with their service members that they’ll carry with them no matter where life takes them next.

In another hands-on and educational celebration, military children and their families had the opportunity to explore and learn about the wildlife of Kentucky with the group “Friends of Land Between the Lakes”. These animal interactions connected our kids to the natural world around them, sparking curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the land they call home—even if only for a little while. Events like these help ground children through ever-changing surroundings and help foster that love for nature and our local critters.

We also kicked off the month with the 3rd Annual USO MilKid Art Show, officially open throughout April at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library. This vibrant collection of artwork highlights the immense talent and heart of our military children. Each piece tells a story—of love, courage, adventure, and sometimes the quiet strength needed to face the unknown, often show as Moving to a new place. We’re incredibly grateful to the library for hosting this special showcase, and we encourage everyone to stop by and experience these moving works firsthand. It’s not just art—it’s a window into the lives and perspectives of our youngest heroes. Another unforgettable moment was the Teen Takeover event at the USO Center. For one evening, the teens got to completely take over the space and enjoy everything the center has to offer—from gaming stations and snacks to lounge areas and more. The highlight of the night? A full-blown Nerf gun war in the event room, where teams battled it out in the ultimate foam dart showdown. It was loud, it was wild, and it was so much fun—just the way it should be!

On April 15th, we will join thousands across the country in wearing purple for Purple Up! Day, a day of recognition for military kids. Purple represents all branches of the military and reminds us of the unity and support these children need and deserve.
